I am looking to pick a new mattress for me and my partner. I am 1.90 at 80 kilos and my partner is 1.70 at 55 kilos. I don't know what that means in stones. Now i don't know what to pick between soft , medium or any other type of mattress. We both struggled before with neck and back pains because of the mattresses so we want to make the right pick Can you please tell me what type of mattress is best suitable for us? We have a normal wooden double frame bed. Thank you very much for your time!

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your questions.

At 80kg we would match you to a Medium spring tension. At 55kg we would also match your partner to a Medium spring tension. However, they are just coming out of a Soft spring tension. If they prefer a softer feel overall then they can choose that Soft spring.

The spring is what gives support from within the mattress itself.

We would need to know what you want the mattress to feel like in it's comfort layers; These layers are the upholstery that you sleep on top of on top of the springs.

With any existing aches and pains we would always recommend avoiding a mattress that is too firm in it's top layers as it will only exacerbate those pains. As such, I would guide towards the first 4 models in our Artisan range; The Artisan 1500, Tailored Pocket 2000, Naturals and Bespoke 004. These models are overall medium with only slight differences between them.

The Artisan range is constructed from a differing percentage of natural fibres and materials and as such come in feeling softer than other mattresses as well as cooler.

We compare our Artisan range with the Vi-Spring range that can be found in any Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed Store; We compare the 4 models above with the Vi-Spring Regal Superb. This should give you a better idea of the overall feels rather than going into it blind.

These mattresses are fine to go on to a solid wooden bed; We just advise that it will firm up the overall feel of the mattress.

I hope that this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries then please don't hesitate to contact me on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
