what JRBD mattress is right for me

Keith Hutcheon

I sleep on my side sometimes on my stomach. I’m 11 stone 4 lbs and 5 foot 9 “.
My current mattress is a latex single slumber down.
I slipped a disc a couple of years ago and more often than not I wake with a stiff lower back.
I tried a couple of mattresses in John Lewis and liked their natural collection herdwick wool 8000 comfort support and the Hypnos deluxe 1800.
I would like to consider one of your mattresses as an alternative if you can recommend something similar?
Thank you .

Hi Keith,

Thanks for your question.

Side sleepers need to avoid anything too firm so as not to cause pressure point pains in places such as shoulders, hips and knees. Front sleepers need to avoid anything too soft in the top layers to avoid an unnatural arch in your back.

At your body weight you will need a Medium spring tension to get the right level of support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

We have nothing to compare with the John Lewis Natural Collection but our Artisan range is one that we compare to the Vi-Spring range that can be found in stores such as Furniture Village, Harrods, House of Fraser or And So To Bed.

Our Artisan Naturals and Bespoke 004 are very much true medium feeling models in the top layers providing that slight sink but not too much. The main difference is that the Bespoke 004 has a full 100% natural fillings giving the coolest sleep surface you can find.

Both of these models compare to the Vi-Spring Regal Superb. Please note that the base the mattress goes on to can make a difference to the feel. If you have a solid top, sprung slatted or solid slatted base then ask the showroom to place the mattress on to the floor to emulate the feel you will get. If you have a sprung base then the mattress will be fine to remain on the showroom base as these are more often than not sprung too.

I hope this has answered your questions fully but if you do have any further queries please don't hesitate to contact our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards, Lee.
