A customer asked

Hi We've been looking for a new bed and are seriously considering buying the Harrison Elegance 2000 King Size Divan Set (medium). Hubby is nearly 18 stone I am just over 12 st. Slightly concerned that hubby may find it too hot but have been unable to find one that has a latex top ( well except from Dreams.......) We love in the North of Scotland so limited to beds we can lie on!!

I hope I am making the right decision.....do you guys have an opinion to share?!!

Thanks .

Hi Jenn.

As you are probably aware, Ryan and I are not the most fervent fans of Memory Foam mattresses.

The heat aspect of this is an important consideration and will not show itself until you spend a couple of nights on it which obviously you cannot do until you have purchased - and, unless there is an adequate Love it or return It return policy (which should be on every mattress purchase) becomes too late!

The set you are contemplating is not overly expensive, considering the manufacturer.

[ £900 Kingsize set] assuming all is as it says !!

and so further investigation is needed to see why this is so.

The official description is as follows: The Harrison Elegance 2000 divan set features a platform top divan base and a Harrison Elegance mattress.

The mattress contains approximately 2000 individual pocket springs and Harrison Revolution and Harrison Posturfil Pocket Springs, combined with layers of memory foam and layers of resilient white fibre for comfort and support.

Each set of springs contours together and provides superior support for the natural curvature of the spine.

Two rows of side stitching provide additional support and stability right to the edge of the mattress while the woven fabric cover provides a soft sleeping surface.

The divan base is mounted on castors for ease of manoeverability.

The questions I would be inclined to ask [Harrisons Customer Service: 0113 205 5200 ] are the following: 1.

What is the depth of Memory Foam used?

I would expect to see 5cm.

2.

How much polyester are you using?

I am assuming this is the layers of resillient white fibre you are referring to.

I would expect to see at least 800 GSM.

3.

I assume there are 1000 Posturefil springs (mini springs) which leaves 1000 main pocket springs - How many of these are Revolution Pocket Springs (Spring in Spring) the spring system which your company is famous for?

4.

Are the two rows of side stitching GENUINE hand side stitching?

The description says that this " ..

provide additional support and stability right to the edge of the mattress .." machine side stitching does not do this so I am assuming it will be Hand Side Stitched - Which is it?

The difference in bodyweights between you and your husband is rather significant.

To find a mattress that will be completely suitable for you both is going to be quite tricky to find.

For £200 more than the Harrisons model you are looking at we would offer our Artisan Naturals.

The springs (calico encased / hand formed / sewn etc) is amongst the very best you can get, but more importantly they can be tailored to your bodyweights).

The base will be sprung edged and will far exceed the standard that's offered from Harrisons.

Hope this helps and we would be interested to hear what you can find out re the contents.
