Thanks for your question on mattresses. We get many people getting in touch about sleeping with a bad back and we've written extensively how a super firm mattress really isn't the answer when it comes to sleeping with backache.

We really would need to know your weight/height to properly advise - you could always ring us if you don't want it published which we can appreciate! However, we can also say that unless you're over 16 stone the 1500 1.4 medium pocket spring gauge on both of these would be fine for you and your husband. (Neither of you should need the 2000 spring count unless you're pushing 18 stone.

Difference between Origins Pocket 1500 and Origins Reflex 1000 Mattress

• Origins Reflex is a firmer mattress in the upholstery layers
• Origins Reflex has 1020GSM of man-made fillings
• Origins Pocket 1500 is a more medium feel in the upholstery layer & contains wool
• Origins Pocket 1500 has 1550GSM of Man made & Natural fibre fillings

Mattress for a Side & front Sleeper:

For front and side sleepers we would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500 which is a true medium feel. The Origins Reflex mattress would have a firmer feel in the top upholstery layer which we don't think would be the best if you have a bad back. It may be too firm in that top layer.

As a side sleeper, you'll need a bit more give to allow your spine to align itself into position, rather than a really firm mattress which has little give in it!

Both of these mattresses are two-sided and contain a large amount of upholstery fillings - far more than competitors at this price range. We hand make all of our mattresses here in the UK.
