Which bed is equivalent to the Loaf Top Dog?

Linda

Hello,
I currently have an old memory foam mattress that came with the rented property, and I am getting backache from sleeping on it. I'm therefore looking to buy a new mattress and yours look really good!
I'm around 8.5 stone and will need a kingsize bed. I sleep on my back and side (usually start off on the back but may turn to the side).
I went into a Loaf showroom to try the beds, and I feel that the Loaf Top Dog seems to provide me with the best back support (the Perfect mattress in regular/medium tension was a bit too soft for me). Do you have anything equivalent in your range? I'm currently looking at the Origins pocket 1500 or the Artisan tailored pocket 2000.
Thank you very much!

Hi Linda,

Thanks for getting in touch about comparison mattresses to the Loaf bed range.

Sorry to hear you're aching due to your memory foam mattress. Memory foam and boxed foam mattresses that come rolled up are notorious for causing some sleepers backaches given they're held usually in one position by the slow to react foam all night. A lot of people also complain about the excess heat retention in these memory foam beds that causes disrupted sleep.

The Loaf mattress range are a good solid quality set of mattresses. What we like about Load beds is that they are more transparent than most retailers in giving the details of what's inside. They sadly don't list the specifications on their website but when we contacted them they sent us the breakdown of their mattresses.

Armed with this detail it means you can help compare them to other mattresses to make a more informed choice.

If you're looking for a mattress with a similar feel to the Loaf Top Dog then our Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 is the closest comparison for a true medium feel with a progressive twin up spring (ie dual layer of pocket springs).

The Loaf mattress has 3200gsm of fillings again a mix of synthetic and natural fibres. From the look of this, it will have a medium feel based on the fillings. It’s hard to know what spring tension they are using as they don’t provide the gauge. Have a look below at the spring tension table to assist. They use a polyester insulator on this model whereas we use Mohair a Premium Natural fibre. The Loaf mattress is a 2-sided mattress which is great, another hooray!

Our Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000 is our nearest comparison which features significantly more GSM with 3950gsm reflected in the increased price. It also uses Mohair which is a Luxury Natural fibre with Wool & Cotton for a forgiving feel in the top layer. We use a polycotton blend above the mohair to help provide some loft ie bounce to the top layer.
It’s more breathable than synthetic super loft or polyester as it’s blended with a natural fibre. It’s blended so we can keep the price competitive.

If you want entirely Natural fillings in a dual spring Calico encased pocket spring mattress then have a look at our Artisan Bespoke 002. This will also show you the price point you would be looking at to go completely natural with a Vanadium coated top end spring unit. It's more food for thought to help you see the differences side by side.

Artisan Tailored Pocket 2000

1: 1200GSM BLENDED BRITISH FLEECE WOOL AND COTTON

2: HAIRPROOF CAMBRIC COVER

3: 1250GSM POLY COTTON

4: 1500GSM PURE 100% MOHAIR

5: 2000 DOUBLE TIER SPUN BOND POCKET SPRINGS (SOFT/MED OR FIRM)

TOTAL: 3950GSM

CHEMICAL FREE COVER

In terms of spring tension, you are on the cusp between a soft and a medium gauge spring. Spring tensions do not dictate the feel of the mattress but are based on your bodyweight to provide enough flex and push back. We would recommend a medium spring (1.4 gauge) given it's a dual spring mattress this will be forgiving enough but also offer enough support.

My thoughts are that a soft spring may feel too relaxed. We usually save these for people with really specific requirements ie they are used to a very soft bed.
