I am 5' 3" and weigh 7 stone.
I purchased a medium/firm pocket sprung mattress from Ikea two years ago on a slatted base.
After two years there has been no give in this mattress, and it is still rock hard.
I have a toppper on it but has made little difference apart from making me overheat.
I do perspire a lot during the night.
I would appreciate your suggestions on what type of mattress, I should go for?

Hi Jackie,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The main consideration when advising upon an appropriate mattress is the body weight(s) of the parties intending to use it. In your particular case, your body weight dictates that you ought to be on a soft spring/feel mattress and we would not have advised to go for a medium/firm as this will provide too much support and will not feel comfortable, something which you are now fully aware of, through your experience.

Without knowing your budget it is difficult to make a specific recommendation, but we would suggest looking at the Origins Comfort 1000 and the Artisan Luxury. The Origins mattress has man made upholstery with a soft feel, but has a medium tension spring, whereas the Luxury has natural upholstery and can have the spring tension selected as soft, medium or firm. Both these mattresses have the softest feel in their respective ranges. Both of these mattresses are double sided, which will increase their longevity.

All of our pocket sprung mattresses are suitable to be used on a slatted base as long as the gaps between the slats do not exceed 3"". if the gaps are larger than 3" we would suggest placing a barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide a uniform surface upon the mattress can sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

We trust that this if of assistance to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our friendly advisors.

kind regards.
