Traditional full Cotton/ Wool versus Spring mattresses - which is better? My back has taken a beating using Spring mattresses. As a result I have been spleeping on the floor (on a basic Futon) for the past month which I find much better than the spring mattress.
I am looking at buying a mattresses but am confused between the following two options -
(1) should a go for a good orthopaedic mattresses that is firm and has a spring count of 1000+
(2) should I buy the traditional full cotton/ wool mattresses (like futons) that have no springs. These have become rather uncommon, I had to struggle to find a few companies that still make them.
Any views ?

Hi Gautam,

When advising upon a suitable mattress, we usually consider the body weight(s) and preferred feel.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Although you have advised you prefer a firmer feel, you have not disclosed your body weight, making any recommendation difficult.

Pocket sprung mattresses with natural upholstery can be made with differing spring tensions, making them suitable for varying body weights.

I am not aware of a manufacturer of wholly upholstered, springless mattresses, but if you would like to discuss your requirements in more detail, please call our office.

Kind Regards Gary
