Which mattress for big people?

A customer asked

Hi My husband and I are looking to replace our Sealy posturepedic "elegance" mattress and base which has kept us comfortable for the last 10 years.

I have read your comments regarding this brand now and on research have not found anything comparable that I would now want to buy.

I am an amazonian 6 foot 17 stone side sleeper and he is 6'2" and 16 stone back sleeper.

I do not find very hard mattresses that comfortable and both of us like to read in bed.

We would be grateful for your suggestions as to the most suitable mattress/base for our needs - oh price up to £800.

Thank you.

Hi Sally,

Thank you for your question.

I would first point you towards the Artisan Naturals (with a firm spring tension), with your combined body weights this will be ideal and overall will not be too firm.  This mattress contains 85% natural fillings and has an overall medium comfort.

If this does push your budget, then consider the Artisan Tailored Pocket (firm spring tension) which has the same fillings as the Artisan Naturals but has a more manufactured spring unit.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

In our Origins Range of mattresses which have man made fillings, I would recommend the Origins Pocket 1500 but with a 2000 spring which will again give you both a more medium comfort but with the firmer spring tension for the support.

If we can help you further, please do not hesitate to telephone our office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind regards Julie
