Which mattress model(s) do you think would be appropriate to replace our old futon mattress
We're currently sleeping on a 12cm Japanese futon made entirely of cotton, but it's 10 years old and has become lumpy. My husband is no longer comfortable. He wakes up with back pain, especially in his lower back, and needs two pillows to elevate his head. We need to replace it.
Taking into account that:
- Our mattress base is a tatami mat.
- My husband is 1.81m tall and weighs 90kg, and I'm 1.60m tall and weigh 55kg.
- We both sleep on our sides.
- We prefer natural fibers. Which mattress model(s) do you think would be appropriate?
Thank you and best regards.
Hi Silvia,
Thank you for contacting us via live chat. Unfortunately, we have nothing with our ranges that would feel as firm as a futon mattress.
Our firmest mattress is the Artisan Bespoke, which is constructed with 100% natural fibres and handmade calico pocket springs. This mattress has a little cushioning in the top layer, but it has a supportive overall feel. This mattress would need a base, putting it on the floor or your Tatami mat would impact the breathability of the mattress.
| Bodyweight | Spring tension |
|---|---|
| Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
| 16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
| Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
We would pair you both with the medium spring tension to provide the correct level of support, however, this would feel very supportive for you, given your very light body weight.
A firm density natural latex may be more suitable for you. There is a company called Latex Sense that is the expert when it comes to latex mattresses.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
