Wooden base for zip & link
Hi,
I'm interested in buying one of your zip & link super king mattresses for access reasons.
I don't like how divans look so have been trying to find a standard wooden slatted frame that would work but I'm concerned about fit.
Do you think something like the below could work? It looks like the mattress is not enclosed and rather sits on top of slats that are flush with the edge. I don't know if maybe an inch of overhang from the platform being 180cm wide would cause issues though.
What do you think?
Any tips for those who want zip & link without a zip & link frame/base?

Hi Danny,
Thank you for your question. A standard super kingsize one-piece mattress measures 6 feet wide by 6 feet 6 inches long. When this is converted into metric, the measurements are 182 cm wide and 198 cm long. This is usually rounded to 180 cm by 200cm for convenience.
The issue with zip and link mattresses is the industry variation. It is not an exact science to make a mattress, and there can be plus or minus 2 cm on each side. With a zip and link mattress, there is an extra side, which means there is a possibility that the mattress could be 4 cm wider. If there is a lip on the slatted bedframe, this can make it difficult to make up the bed, changing the sheet, etc. There would not be this issue with the bed frame you are considering. The size of this bed frame is 1 inch wider than a standard mattress at 6 feet 1 inch wide. Please note that new mattresses are usually made slightly smaller to allow for settlement, where the mattress spreads slightly.

Please ensure the gap between slats of any bed frame you purchase is less than 3 inches, 7.5 cm. The slats would need to be covered by an old or cheap duvet or blanket to protect the upholstery layers on the underside of the mattress from indentations and possible staining. If the gap is larger, you would need to board over the slats with MDF or Plywood to prevent the springs from settling in the gap. If they do, you would not receive the correct level of support and it would damage your mattress.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
