Our John Ryan Artisan Sprung edge bases are 13″ in depth plus 2″ for Shepherd Castors making them 15″ in total. This is a ‘true edge’ base.
Spring edging can be looked upon as a mini mattress between the main mattress and the base. It offers a progressive support that dampens the strain of weight from the user. This significantly improves the overall comfort level of a mattress. This difference in comfort is often described as ‘Softer’ which is quite an incorrect term to use.
The drawers on the Artisan bases are 32″ wide, 20″ deep and 7″ high.
You can have 2 or 4 drawer options. If using bedside tables you may want to have 2 full size and 2 continental drawers so the drawers next to the bedside tables can be opened fully.
Continental drawers will have the same depth and height as the normal, but the width will be 17.5 inches.

The use of a sprung edged base also has the tendency to increase the lifespan of the mattress. The theory being that the actual springs inside the mattress are sharing the load with a further set of springs within the base.

Our team will be able to guide you to the right product for you and your budget. We grade the products in our warehouse and the grading is decided based on the condition of the product upon return. All mattresses are Grade B or C. At this stage we cannot give you the history of each product or the very specifics of where any marks may be located so if this is important for you to know then a clearance bed may not be for you and you can choose your mattress in the normal way. We do however guarantee that the condition will be no worse than described below and in most cases is actually better!
