Excellent website to make my decision on mattress and call from JR to confirm I’d made the right choice. First delivery date was not convenient so rescheduled but new date not offered promptly or proactively by delivery company so an extended wait. Great service on delivery day, no complaints bringing heavy mattress up stairs, and advice from the delivery guys on keeping mattress in top condition appreciated. Good service and good mattress
Had previously tried an online purchase of a well known king size memory foam style mattress however we could not get used to it and a regularly aching back meant that it was returned – no complaints with their service but memory foam not for us.
Did a lot of research – visited Hypnos, John Lewis and made comparisons and eventually saw the John Ryan website. All their reports made sense, service was good and mattress has proved to be great. Unlikely to be returned but without the 60 day trial I probably would not have risked the purchase. As long as it lasts a good few years we will be very happy.

John Ryan – A Hidden Gem
Are they worth it, are reviews worth the paper they are written on. Well after spending over a decade living outside of the UK and buying a bespoken mattress in New Zealand the country in which we made our home we thought it was worth the money. After our beloved mattress wasn’t for us anymore we decided to seek a new one, wow I had this challenge to find one.. Forgetting how many choice we have in this country, with all this new fan dangled technology and all these different types it’s not a quick decision as it’s like a pair of shoes you have to try them to see if they’re right for you. You also know that at first they seem lovely in the shop but once you wear them for a bit the blisters appear and they’re the pair you don’t want to wear as you’re not sure you want to endure the pain. But you do as you firstly need them and you know at the end of the day the pain is worth it and once they have been broken in they’re the most comfortable thing you have ever had and you really don’t want to wear anything else. Luckily with a pair of shoes you can purchase several pairs and have a spare but with a mattress it’s a similar thing you need to break it in, you forget about this when buying and also the fact that when you’re testing them out in the shop you forget how many thousands of people have laid on that bed before you and how soft it is in comparison to the one you end up with. So our search for a new mattress began, so on the internet I went a looking for the ideal one, nearly in tears because it wasn’t going to be an easy and straight forward task. All these new types I had to wade my way through read up on them and then research as many as I could. Now that’s good but can you find the one you want or several on your list in one shop and that shop be local, the answer is no. You have to shop around and that’s what I did. I went to a couple of bed shops as local to me as possible and had the sales assistants come out with their sales spiel as they do, and you kind of get drawn in and not thinking that they are taking you from the cheapest bed to the most expensive one, and at the end of it you walk away thinking wow that’s what I have got to spend to get a good nights sleep. Not sure I want to spend that much, and knowingly know that that person will end up with a big commission in their pocket as they have convinced you that this is the right one for you. Well trick is go alone don’t take your partner as you can use that as an excuse not to buy. Don’t fall for the spiel, go around the shop testing out the beds yourself and narrowing it down to the ones you might be interested in. Don’t just lay on it for a few seconds, no lay on it as you would lay on your bed to go to sleep in the position you’d go to sleep in and stain it for a long time to get comfortable, and remember these have had many a people lay on them before you therefore they are softer than the one which arrives and you have to break it in. It always seems like when you go into a bed shop you forget these rules. You don’t have to buy straight away you can walk away and try not to be drawn in by all these terminologies these sales people give you and go to shops like John Lewis that their sales persons aren’t on commission and give you the spiel without the pressure, and they leave you in peace to test out their mattresses but are around if you need to question them.
After this I carried on researching on the internet and found one of these 100 days hybrid ones on special so we thought why not test it out what have we got to loose. Well little did I know we had a lot to loose, it arrived and we laid on it after the set period we were given after it arrived and thought wow can’t wait to go to bed tonight and sleep on that. From the first night I tossed and turned and was awake most of the night having to wake up and make a conscious decision on my position and each time I needed to rollover and change I woke up to do that rather than the natural movement you do in your sleep without waking. I woke up with hip and backache, on reading thought well this is like wearing a new pair of shoes and getting those blisters, my body getting used to the new mattress. Well as days turned into weeks and weeks into months, I was finding I was barely sleeping properly and waking with the most excruciating back pain that I was struggling to put shoes on without being in pain, sitting for too long made it worse and having to take tablets during the day to relieve the pain but I persevered through it in the hope it’ll improve. But sadly it didn’t I did however notify the manufacturers at the beginning of the purchase within the first few weeks and they said it may not be for us but give it time to settle. We found out that the one we had had delivered was faulty so they swapped it for a new one freezing the 100 day period, gave us a new one and restarted that trial, but again I still had issues with my back and hubby issues with his shoulder and neck. Despite lack of sleep I slept really well when we did but was the pain worth it no, so that one went back but before it did we had to find a replacement, John Ryan appeared in my research which I had seen it before and wish I had just gone to this one in the first place and not having to spend this time on the hybrid one giving me pain. But I can’t turn the clocks back however I do know that those types of mattresses aren’t for me and hubby.
After finding John Ryan’s website and reading as much as I could, finding reviews about their mattresses not only on their own website but outside. Reading upon the information given, I was astounded by how much information they had on this site, no matter where you went it was like an encyclopaedic of mattress knowledge.. But where could I test one of these out, I had the spiel but without having the person speak to me. They compared their mattresses like for like with others made in a similar way to how theirs was made, using the same type of materials and similar techniques. I then decided after reading the pages I wanted to speak to someone to find out where I could lay on one as they didn’t seem to have a shop nearby. I spoke to the most delightful, very knowledgable, and passionate about the product he was talking about, he answered all my questions of which I had many and answered them, making me relaxed knowing I had found a fantastic gem. It was like being an explorer and finding that buried treasure that had been lost for centuries and knowing you have struck gold and hit the jackpot. Well after speaking to Gary (Business Manager) and going to a shop that had a similar product which he stated was very similar so I could try out another brand and make the choice from their products so that I could then pick the right one from John Ryan. I know it sounds complicated, but them not having a shop brings the price down as they have no overheads to spend thus keeping the cost down for the customer.
We took the plunge and ordered an Artisan Naturals kingsize mattress. It came quicker than anticipated which isn’t a problem as they had stated a time but it was quicker, they delivered it and placed it on our bed and was told to leave it for as long as possible for it to settle. After that time we went for a lay down to see how it was and I forgot that it’s new like a pair of shoes and was harder than I expected. Having now had it for several weeks I can say there was a time that I wanted to send it back as my back pain was still there and I was struggling but in time it eased and now I can say it’s very comfortable, the back issue is still there but it’s slowly disappearing and I’m sleeping like a baby. Yes I do still wake up and turn over but I think that’s more to the fact of the previous mattress got me into a certain habit and now I’m breaking it, whereas I was waking nearly every hour to every hour and half to rollover or move positions now it’s only a couple of times if that. The mattress is slowly getting more comfortable and I know I have to rotate and flip it so will take a bit of time to get the mattress to the same comfort as one that’s in the shops but I’m prepared to persevere on this one as I feel we have most definitely found a little treasure at a very good price and to get this type of quality in comparison to others in the shops I would highly recommend this company and would most definitely purchase again from here. Having been ill for the past few weeks I’ve been tossing and turning on this mattress without waking up due to the mattress but due to my illness, finding that now I’m out of the nasty habit of waking to re-position that the hybrid mattress made me do and back to a proper sleeping pattern in the most comfortable bed ever. So Thank you John Ryan no more back or hip pain, I can sleep in whatever position I like without any discomfort. 10 out 10, 5 Stars the highest score you can give, I’m super impressed with not only the quality, the craftsmanship, the price and service this is what makes a top brand a combination of so many things, like I said a hidden Gem.
You are given 60 days trial period and they are confident that after those 60 days you’ll be very happy with your purchase, whilst at first I wasn’t sure as I felt after a few nights it should have alleviate by back pain and wanted so much to have a quick cure, knowing in my heart it’ll take the time for my body to adjust to the new mattress and the new mattress to adjust to us.. All I can say is persevere as it’s so worth the wait. So thank you Gary and thankyou John Ryan for such an awesome product and a good nights sleep eventually. It was worth waiting for now no more back pain and sleeping fantastically, everyone is different and what might work for one person not necessarily would work for another, all I’m saying don’t dismiss John Ryan give them a try you’ve not got much to loose apart from time you never know it too might be the one for you, you have 60 days

I have only had my Mattress (Artisan Naturals) for just over a week and so far very nice and comfortable top quality mattress..The John Ryan by Design experience has been faultless very organised and kept informed every step of the way.
