Transform your sleep with our Hotel Quality Dual Layer Mattress Topper, engineered with the same specifications used in prestigious hotels worldwide.
The innovative dual layer construction features a supportive base layer that prevents excessive sink whilst the plush comfort top layer cushions your body with soft polyester clusters. At approximately 9cm depth, this substantial topper revitalises tired mattresses or softens sleeping surfaces that feel too firm.
The 233 thread count polycotton percale cover with jacquard finish provides durability and elegant appearance, whilst the boxed construction keeps filling evenly distributed without shifting or clumping.
Generous 35cm straps stretch securely over mattresses and bases up to 22 inches deep, ensuring the topper stays firmly in place throughout the night. The practical zipper design separates both layers for convenient washing in standard domestic machines at 40°C.

Bedding FAQ
What does dual-layer construction mean?
The topper comprises two distinct layers: a firmer base layer that provides support and prevents excessive sink into your mattress, and a softer comfort top layer that cushions your body with plush polyester clusters. This dual structure delivers better performance than single-layer toppers, which can feel either too firm or allow too much sink. The combination provides that ideal balance of support and comfort found in premium hotel beds. The zipper connection allows you to separate both layers for easier washing in standard domestic machines.
Will 9cm depth be too much for my bed?
At approximately 9cm, this is a substantial topper that will noticeably raise your sleeping surface. Consider whether your fitted sheets have sufficient depth to accommodate both your mattress and the additional 9cm. You may need deeper fitted sheets (we recommend 38cm depth for most mattresses with this topper). The extra height is beneficial for revitalising tired mattresses or adding considerable softness to firm surfaces, but ensure your bedding can accommodate the increased depth before purchasing.
How does this revitalise tired mattresses?
Mattresses naturally lose comfort over years of use as filling materials compress and pocket springs settle. Rather than replacing an otherwise structurally sound mattress, a quality topper intercepts your body weight before it reaches the tired comfort layers beneath. The dual layer construction provides fresh support and cushioning, essentially creating a new sleeping surface whilst your existing mattress continues providing structural foundation. This extends mattress life considerably whilst restoring comfort at a fraction of replacement cost.
Will this work on very firm mattresses?
Absolutely. Many customers use substantial toppers specifically to soften mattresses that feel too firm for their comfort preferences. The 9cm depth with dual layer construction adds significant cushioning that moderates firm surfaces effectively. The base layer prevents you sinking through to the hard mattress beneath whilst the comfort top provides plush softness. If you’ve purchased a firm mattress for support but find it uncomfortable, this topper offers an economical solution without replacing the entire mattress.
How do the 35cm straps work?
The generous 35cm elasticated straps extend from each corner of the topper, wrapping around and under your mattress to secure the topper firmly in place. They’re long enough to stretch over mattresses and bases measuring up to 22 inches (approximately 56cm) in total depth. This accommodates our deep handmade mattresses plus divan bases without strain. The elastic maintains tension wash after wash, preventing the frustrating shifting and bunching that occurs with inadequate securing systems.
Can I wash this topper at home?
Yes, and this is a significant advantage. The zipper design allows you to separate the two layers, and each layer fits comfortably in standard domestic washing machines. Machine wash at 40°C, tumble dry on low heat, and reassemble when dry. This practical washability is rare in thick toppers, many of which require professional cleaning due to size. Regular washing maintains hygiene and freshness, removing accumulated body oils and allergens that degrade both comfort and cleanliness over time.
Is polyester filling comfortable?
Modern polyester cluster filling has evolved considerably from old-fashioned polyester wadding. The cluster ball construction creates soft, down-like feel with excellent resilience and loft. Polyester clusters maintain their plumpness far better than standard polyester, bouncing back after compression rather than flattening permanently. Whilst natural down provides slightly superior luxury, polyester clusters offer excellent comfort, hypoallergenic properties, and practical washability at more accessible pricing. Many premium hotels use polyester cluster toppers precisely because they deliver reliable comfort with practical maintenance.
Will this make me sleep hot?
Polyester is less breathable than natural fibres like wool or cotton, so there is some heat retention compared to natural alternatives. However, the polycotton percale cover helps manage temperature better than fully synthetic covers. For most sleepers in moderate climates, heat retention isn’t problematic. If you naturally sleep very warm or experience night sweats, you might prefer our natural fibre options. The dual layer construction does allow some air circulation between the layers, which helps moderate temperature compared to dense single layer designs.
How does this compare to memory foam toppers?
Polyester cluster toppers provide plush cushioning without the sinking sensation and heat retention characteristic of memory foam. You get immediate comfort that responds quickly when you move, rather than the slow-response feel of foam. Polyester clusters also remain cooler and are fully machine washable, whereas memory foam toppers typically cannot be washed. The choice depends on preference: memory foam offers contouring pressure relief, whilst polyester clusters provide traditional plush softness with better temperature management and easier maintenance.
Does this meet UK safety standards?
Yes, this topper meets British Standards for fire retardancy, which is a legal requirement for furniture and bedding sold in the UK. This compliance ensures the materials used resist ignition and slow flame spread, providing important safety protection without compromising comfort or requiring harsh chemical treatments. All reputable UK bedding should meet these standards, but it’s worth confirming when purchasing toppers, particularly from overseas suppliers who may not comply with British regulations.
Can I use this on a John Ryan natural fibre mattress?
You can, though it somewhat reduces the breathability advantages of natural fibre mattresses. If you’ve invested in an Artisan mattress filled with wool, cashmere, and horsehair specifically for natural temperature regulation, adding synthetic topping partially masks those properties. However, if you find your natural fibre mattress too firm initially (they do soften with use), a topper provides temporary comfort during the break-in period. For permanent softening of natural fibre mattresses, we’d typically recommend wool toppers that maintain breathability throughout the system.

No, and no showroom or retailer sells our products. This is part of the reason why our prices can be so competitive: our internet-based company model allows us to avoid passing the excessive costs of other retailers on to our customers. Most staff within showrooms are also not bed experts (unlike our own in-house team). Sadly, such staff probably wouldn’t understand mattress manufacture to the extent that they could reliably answer your questions. To give you confidence in our way of doing things, our 60-day “love it or return it” guarantee offers the ability to return a mattress that doesn’t suit you for a full refund, or you can perform a one-time exchange and swap to an alternative model. You can visit our guarantee page for more information, or our article about buying a mattress online to see just why our approach actually benefits you!
From the time you place your order, there is a 4 week average lead time until delivery for most of our mattress models. This is because all of our mattresses, bases and headboards are handmade to order especially for you! You can visit our delivery page for more information.

If you take advantage of this, please do note that exercising our 60-day “love it or return it” guarantee would require you to return your purchase to us at your own cost.
