Can you compare the Igel Orion with John Ryans range?
Hi I'm looking at the igel Orion bed from Bensons, how does this compare with your range?
We liked firm to medium mattresses with a cooling topper. We are in our early thirties, I am 6ft tall at 85kg, and wife is 5.7ft tall at 55kg. We also looked at the Sealy Adelaide range?
Please advise on these two ranges.
Hi Singh,
Thank you for your question.
Whilst we don't usually compare with models such as the iGel Orion, predominantly because most retailers don't fully disclose how they construct. If they did then you can compare and they don't want you to do that. You need to know the exact density, depth and hardness of these foams which Bensons won't disclose. I wonder why?
Bensons for Beds rate the feel of their mattresses differently to ourselves. They use a number system whereas we tend to be a bit more transparent and use Soft, Medium or Firm. The iGel Orion is rated as a 3, which I take to be a Medium feel. This mattress has an in-built 5cm iGel top layer that they describe as temperature regulating. We would usually advise against in-built top layers, more commonly known as Pillowtops, as they tend to be used in 1 sided mattresses, which decreases the lifespan of the mattress. Not only that but once the fabric compresses on a Pillowtop there is nothing you can do with it due to the in-built nature of it. This is where we more often than not recommend fully turnable mattresses.

Unfortunately, I can't really find much information on the Sealy Adelaide range but this goes back to my previous statement that most retailers don't disclose how they construct; This is the driving factor for us being so open and transparent about our own products.
With our mattresses, I would say that the closest match to the iGel Orion would be our own Origins Pocket Latex 1500. This mattress has a medium spring tension as standard. This will cover body weights between 9 and 17st normally. At 55kg this is just short of the 9st guide so may just feel a little bit firmer. At 85kg this is quite comfortably the right support level for you. The Origins Pocket Latex 1500 is our firmest mattress in the top layers having no sort of sink in sensation whatsoever. This is also a 1 sided mattress, one of our only ones, meaning it doesn't need to be turned over as the top layer is in-built similar to the iGel.
We would always guide anyone away from a mattress that's too firm in the top layers if there is any level of side sleeping as this will only serve to cause pressure point pains in places such as hips, shoulders and knees.
However, you always have the option here of adding a topper after 4-6 weeks of trying the mattress to soften down the feel.
Please see below for some further information regarding the breakdown of the layers inside the Origins Pocket Latex 1500;
