Generally, you want to be looking at a traditional pocket sprung mattress as this gives you support from the spring and then you have the fillings sitting atop those springs providing the comfort layer. 
 
At your body weight you are borderline between a Soft and Medium spring. Your husband is comfortably within our Medium spring tension guidelines. Generally, we find from speaking to our customers that anyone above 9st tends to prefer a Medium spring as it gives a bit more support.

You don’t really disclose what type of feel your current mattress has so it’s difficult to comment definitively. However, maybe go for something with a medium feel, providing a slight sink into that top layer but not too much. It’s safer to choose a medium rather than a soft as if the medium is too firm after 4-6 weeks then you can always add a mattress topper to soften it down further.

Any new mattress will take time to adjust to as the spring system nor the fillings have been slept on or compressed.
