A customer asked

Hi,
I have a 4 year old Millbrook on a solid slatted base, turned regularly. Over the last 12 months it has become increasingly lumpy and uncomfortable in the centre of my side, the wife's side is ok. The springs seem to have separated and clunk and clang when I turn over. I phoned Millbrook who have a 10 year guarantee, although it transpires it amounts to a sliding scale discount against a replacement. They sent out an engineer who measured the solid slats on my 2 year old bed and said the 8cm gap in the slats was excessive and likely the cause.
What do you think. (I weigh 15 stone)
Thanks

Hi Adrian,

We always recommend that, if the gaps in a slatted base are more than 7 cm apart, a barrier in the form of 3-5 mm mdf sheeting should be placed over the slats to provide a uniform surface upon which the mattress can sit and to eliminate the possibility of the mattress depressing into the gaps and also to prevent any form of a dip or ridge occurring over the central ridge of the base.

I think that you can try this to see if it resolves the situation with your mattress as the guarantee may not cover you because the slats have excessive gaps. I hope that this helps,

Kind Regards Gary
