TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Pocket latex or Hybrid

there asked
25th January 2016

I am looking for a new mattress to replace a memory foam which I find too hot. Even with a 4.5 tog duvet in the winter I wake several times a night overheating. I also suffer from hip/lower back problems, often waking with numb hips. We both sleep on our sides.
I have been looking at springs/” title=”pocket spring”>pocket spring with either latex or gel toppings. Two of the mattresses I found comfortable are the Highgrove gel infusion 2500 and Sealey Napoli (recommended by Which, but also shows very poor reviews on the Which website).
I have tried to compare these two against your latex toped pocket sprung mattress but my concern is at my weight – just under 10st and 5ft 5inchs it could be too firm for me according to your chart. My husband is 5ft 10 and around 13st.
The other option is a hybrid mattress, but I had talked myself out of anything that involved memory foam. By budget is around £700. I would be grateful for your comments. Great website!

Hi there,

Thank you for the compliment at the end of your question.

Memory foam is notorious for heat retention where that forms the major part of the mattress. Incorporating a layer of memory foam within a multi layered product (our Hybrid 4 & Hybrid 5) reduces the amount of heat retention as does the addition of a topper. With your body weights, I would recommend a medium tension/feel mattress.

Please view our Origins Pocket 1500 as this will provide the medium feel you require together with a luxurious comfort layer.

I would avoid any product which purports to provide you with a firmer feel.
