Scoliosis made worse by memory foam, can you help?

Doug asked
27th October 2015

Hello,
my sister needs a new mattress, currently sleeping on memory foam. She is handicapped, 4’8″ and weighs approx 12 stone (increase in wt over the last year). She has scoliosis and is unable to adjust her position in bed, meaning she sleeps on the same side all night. She is troubled with a sore hip during the night and wakes up with a sore side, although there is no indication of pressure sores. She did have a pressure sore, which has cleared, but which has left her side tender. Could you recommend a mattress which could help alleviate her pain.
Thank you
Doug

Hi Doug,

We do not recommend memory foam as it is very heat retentive, particularly if you are sleeping in one position all night. I think that the memory foam may be becoming too firm for your sister, producing the soreness you refer to.

Please view our Origins Pocket 1500, which has a standard medium feel, which is ideal for your sister’s weight with support provided by the springs and comfort provided by the upholstery layers. This is also a double sided mattress, which can be turned and rotated to give it extended longevity.
