TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Which mattress will be suitable for me?

Zoe asked

Hi, I have been looking at mattresses for the past 2 years but have never committed to buying one as its so hard to know what to go for and be convinced I am getting good value for money. We currently have an Ergoflex memory foam mattress which I absolutely hate (my partner likes it). I suffer from lower back pain and would prefer a pocket sprung. We did look at the John Lewis Natural Collection 4000 mattress in medium firm which seemed to feel good, though difficult to tell without sleeping on it. I also like the feel of Harrison Spinks but so many to choose from, how do I know how many springs are sufficient?

What would you recommend from your range?

I’m approx 11st and my partner is 13st 7. >

Hi Zoe,

Sorry to hear you are having a love-hate relationship with your Ergoflex mattress. Ergoflex is a very firm memory foam mattress similar construction method to Tempur. I’m guessing based on your weight you’re finding it too firm and dense. If you’re looking for a more traditional sprung mattress with natural fibres then our Artisan Naturals is our most popular model. This with a medium tension would be fine for you and your partner and is far more forgiving than Ergoflex’s 85kg density memory foam!

Artisan Naturals mattress

The Ergoflex and Artisan Naturals mattresses are worlds apart in terms of feel and construction methods. The Ergoflex is one-sided completely synthetic firm sinking memory foam. The Artisan Naturals is a calico pocket sprung hand crafted made in the UK mattress. It has a huge 3950gsm of upholstery and is two-sided.

You’d need to decide with your partner whether the sinking feel of memory foam is something that is essential in a mattress for you.  If it was I’d advise you look at solid core natural late like our Fusion 3 100% natural latex mattress. We wouldn’t advise the use of memory foam in the long term.  It degrades quickly, gets really warm and there are far better alternative out there.

I hope this was helpful and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.
