TAKE OUR MATTRESS QUIZ

Which replacement mattress for us?

Helen asked
20th January 2017

Current mattress is a Sleepmasters Firm superking – 1700 hand nested pocket spring, materials wool, cotton and polyester. Zone edge support.Husband is 6 foot 2 inches, 16 stone, I am 5 foot 2 and fluctuate between 8 and a half and 9 stone.He likes the firmness of the bed and wants to retain that. I would like to have something a bit more comfortable as I feel I am just resting on top of it.I am looking at the Artisan Luxury, the Bespoke 2 and Bespoke 4 mattresses at the moment and am thinking it would be sensible to have the mattress made as medium/firm to accommodate us both.The mattress will be for a slatted bed frame.Do you have any suggestions or advice?

Hi Helen,

Thank you for your enquiry.

With your particular body weights, we would suggest a split spring tension, medium for your husband and soft for you;

BodyweightSpring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kgMedium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg UpwardsFirm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call)Soft (1.2mm)

The Artisan Luxury, whilst being able to select the spring tension to suit, has the softest upholstery layers, which if you are moving from a firm feel mattress, is likely to feel too soft for you both.

The Artisan Bespoke 002 and Artisan Bespoke 004 both have the same levels of natural upholstery, however, the 002 has a double layer of springs providing an overall more forgiving, springier feel.

Of the two, we would suggest that the Artisan Bespoke 004 is best suited to your requirements.

If you are using this mattress on your current slatted base, we would advise placing some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring on this double sided mattress as a result of it dipping into the gaps between the slats.

None of the mattresses we refer to can be compared to your current mattress in respect of the construction and upholstery in terms of GSM (grams per square metre), as the published details are not as specific in respect of these elements.

We trust that the above helps but if you require any further advice or guidance please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our Advisors.

Kind Regards, John and Ryan.
