Info required about mattress pads
Hi there....great site!
We are looking for a pocket-sprung mattress to replace the old one on our fixed-slat kings-zie bedstead - I'm particularly taken by the ones made by Vi-Spring and Hypnos - and i'm a bit concerned by all this talk about mattress pads. Our slats are 3" apart, and I can now see that the old mattress sags between the slats. The thing is, I don't want to put down sheets of plywood between the slats and the mattress as it will kill the ventilation to the mattress, and i don't reckon pegboard will help with ventilation much. Silly, I know, but what about that plastic honeycombed stuff they use for lawn reinforcement, or something similar?
Or mattress pads?
Any suggestions appreciated Thanks Nico
.
Hi Nico,
Thank you for your question.
The purpose of a mattress pad is to cushion your mattress against the hard slats. Our pocket sprung mattresses are breathable which is why we recommend using hardboard or pegboard to place over slats. We also then recommend adding either a cheap duvet or blanket to protect the mattress against any splinters of wood.
The mattresses will also need to be turned and rotated on a regular basis also therefore airing the mattress in question.
Our Artisan Range of mattresses have a similar feel to certain of the Vi Spring Mattresses and it would benefit you to pop along to a Vi Spring stockist to try those mattresses to see which you prefer. Once you have done this, please then call our office for further advice and guidance on which of our mattresses would suit you best. When trying the Vi Spring mattresses, they do come with either a soft. medium or firm spring tension. The springs in the mattress are what give you the support and that support is dictated by body weight. Please see the table below to make sure of the correct tension for you :-
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
I hope this assists and look forward to hearing from you further in due course. Our office number is 0161 437 4419.
Kind regards Julie
John and Ryan.
