What mattress for different weights
Hi, We are looking for a new mattress for our superking size bed and can never agree on the firmness of mattress. We have also considered zip and link. My husband is 18st and prefers a firm mattress and tends to sleep on his side. I am 11st and prefer a softer mattress and sleep on my back. Can you make any suggestions please ?
Many thanks. .
Hi Lindsey.
The reason you and your hubby cannot agree on a mattress that suits you both is that the particular mattress does not exist and you are wasting your life looking for it. It is not feasibly possible for a mattress to have one spring tension (support) that will accommodate satisfactorily two completely differing bodyweights.
Your husbands 'preference' for a firm mattress is in my mind an indication that your current mattress may be too soft/wrong mattress for him although his bodyweight dictates that a firmer gauge spring - not necessarily a firmer tension mattress would be the right way to go.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
What goes on top of this support (the comfort) is quite irrelevant at this stage - that choice will inevitably come down to your budget. We always point people initially to our Artisan Naturals model and ask you to work upwards or downwards to suit your budget but know what compromises or enhancements you are expected to receive by doing so.
It may be a useful exercise for you both to try a Vi-Spring mattress in a reputable showroom (Furniture Village or John Lewis) in order for you to see how a top end spring unit works with your individual body weights.
Your husband should be looking at spring gauges termed 'Firm' and you no doubt will fall in love with many of the 'Soft' tension mattresses.
John and Ryan.
