Vi-Spring Herald supreme questions

A customer asked

Hi I suffer from a bad back and we have tried out a vi spring herald supreme. My partner and I are 12 & 16 stones.it was suggested by the store that we needed a medium and firm tension . When I said we had a slatted bed we were told we needed to select a soft and medium instead as slats make mattresses firmer. Please could you tell me is this correct?

It was also suggested we could get a base topper to provide support.we are now confused what to do next as obviously we need to get it right. Many thanks. .

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your question.

The Vi-Spring Herald Supreme / Superb compares with our own Artisan Bespoke mattress; This is very much a firm feeling mattress in the top layers, I.e, the fillings that you are in direct contact with.

John Ryan By Design Artisan Bespoke Vi-Spring Herald Superb
1 500gsm British Wool 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool & Cotton
2 1200gsm Blended British Fleece Wool and Cotton NA
3 Hairproof Cambric Cover Hairproof Cambric Cover
4 1200gsm Pure Horsetail NA
5 1200gsm Horsehair 1200gsm Horsehair
6 1000gsm White Cashmere Insulator 1000gsm British Fleece Wool
7 1600 Calico encased Pocket Springs [49mm] [1.28mm] 1476 Calico encased Pocket Springs [51mm] [Gauge: 1.42mm]
Total GSM 5100gsm 3400gsm

The base that the mattress goes on does have an effect on the feel of the mattress. A Pocket Sprung base will give the mattress a slightly softer feel as the spring tension is slightly softened. A Pocket Sprung base also adds extra support to the mattress.

A solid platform top base; Our Contemporary Platform Divan for instance, will firm up the spring tension and give the mattress a slightly firmer feel. A slatted base, whether sprung or solid, will give the mattress a slightly firmer feel; Sprung slats are a bit more forgiving and have a bit more movement. A way to get a good indication of the difference between a sprung base and a slatted base would be test the same model in the showroom but ask the staff to place the mattress on to the floor. That will emulate the sensation of a platform top / slatted base.

I will say that spring tension guidelines will differ between retailers. With ourselves you are more matched with a Medium spring tension for you both.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)
