Why is my pillow top sagging?

A customer asked

I have a pillow top hand-stitched (supposedly) mattress that is now saggy. I'm wondering if I can somehow replace the pillow top portion. Is this something that I can do myself as there are no mattress repair places or do I just have to chuck my £3,000 mattress and get another?

Hi Polly.

Thank you for your enquiry on our website.  You may be able to extend the mattress by adding more comfort layers in the form of a mattress topper.  Unfortunately, there is no way to replace the pillow top portion of your one-sided mattress and it may be necessary to replace it.

When purchasing a new mattress there are a few things to consider. Firstly, and most importantly, you should make sure the spring tension is correct for your body weight(s).  This is what will give you the correct level of support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Secondly, the upholstery layer.  Do you want a mattress that is soft, that you sink into, a medium that has a slight sink but not too much or would you like a firm mattress?  Different fibres are used to create the different feels.  Do you have any preferences of what those fibres are made of, man-made or natural?  And lastly, your sleeping habits play a big role in the mattress you should choose.

Artisan Naturals mattress

We have two pocket sprung ranges, the Origins which is our synthetic fibre range and the Artisan is our natural fibre range and our two most popular models are the Origins Pocket 1500 and the Artisan Naturals.  Have a look at these as a benchmark when you are looking in showrooms.  All of our models have a detailed breakdown of all the components used in the construction.

I hope this was helpful and if you would like to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

John & Ryan
