Questions on Origins 1500 bed base

A customer asked

Hi, After lots of research on beds I am thinking of purchasing your Origins Pocket 1500. It seems to be really good quality for the price. The only thing which makes me hesitate is that I have read that sprung bases are better than platforms and would like to know if for the Origins mattress it would be possible to get a sprung base?

And most of all will that make a big difference?

For the last 2 years I had a similar mattress to this (with a sprung base) (sorry the website is in french so I tried to translate as accurate as possible the composition of it: STRETCH twill 100% polyester. 640 springs in size 140. Perimeter belt reinforcing polyether foam. Facing winter: 1 layer pure new wool (150 gsm) on polyurethane foam, thickness 18 mm. Face were: 1 pure white cotton cloth (300 gsm) stitched onto polyurethane foam, thickness 18 mm.) I know the quality isn't as good as your beds but I loved the fact that it was both soft and yet firm and would like to know if your Origin mattress would have the same kind of sensation?

Thank you a lot for all your information on your website, it really helped me. Regards, Emmanuelle >

Hi Emmanuelle,

I'm glad you have found our site useful. Sprung bases are a more advanced base, to state that they are better than a platform top divan is subjective. It depends on the feel of mattress and bed you are going for. A sprung divan will soften the overall feel of the mattress where a platform top will keep the mattress around its listed tension.

So it depends on the feel you want from the mattress. It's not a massive jump but say a medium mattress will feel slightly softer on a sprung base than a platform top base it won't, however, jump from say medium to soft. I'm not sure what you mean as in soft and firm I'm afraid. I know sometimes these things are hard to describe in an email!

The mattress you've sent looks like a pretty low-quality construction if I'm honest, ie 18mm of foam is pretty much useless in a mattress once it is compressed. Our pocket sprung ranges utilises soft, medium or firm comfort layers on top of supportive pocket spring units with the spring tension determined by your body weight. I'm not sure if this is what you're asking about? It may be best to give us a call on 0161 437 4419 so we can help you further.

Kind Regards
