What mattress for bad back?

A customer asked

Hi, I suppose you get asked this a lot, but I have been suffering for the old aches first thing in a morning, and have been seeing a chiropractor, who confirms that my main issue is postural.

The mattress I have is pocket spring, and is very firm (uncomfortable).

At the weekend we stopped away and woke both mornings with not one pain and the mattress was very soft.

Can you recommend a particular mattress / level of softness that I might need to make my nights sleep more comfortable.

Thanks Jamie >

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your question.

It used to be that if you had back problems, a firm mattress was prescribed as a solution, in fact this is now known to be incorrect, as I am sure your chiropractor will confirm.

A mattress with softer top layers and a springs/" title="pocket spring">pocket spring tension of medium is more likely to suit.  However, without details of your body weights, preferred feel and budget, I am unable to recommend a particular mattress.  It is the springs that are within the mattress that provide the support and the upholstery layers which provide the comfort.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Please contact our office on 0161 437 4419 to provide this information and obtain specific advice as to the suitability of one of our products.

Kind regards Julie
