Edwardian bed frame needs a base

Hi
I have an Edwardian double bed frame and a pocket spring mattress. Currently looking for a base for the bed. I was thinking of getting a vintage metal sprung base. Would that work? And are there things I'd need to do to get the best out of the metal base. I'm on a tight budget. Cheers. Frith
