What firmness should I have in my mattress?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying an Ercol for John Lewis Shalstone Bedstead, Oak, Kingsize, which has "sprung birch wood slats". I like the bed but have had real trouble comparing John Lewis mattresses. I like your descriptions on your website. I'm single and about 182cm tall and weigh about 74kg. I'd like to spend about £800 on the mattress, but I could maybe afford £1000 if it made a real difference. Which firmness do you recommend for me and which of your mattresses? Should I have a topper as well? Thank you.
Hi Carl,
With your body weight, I would suggest that you opt for a medium spring tension in a mattress.
There is no need to purchase a topper at this stage, what I would advise is that you sleep on your new mattress for at least 14 nights before deciding on whether you need a topper, as it may not be necessary.
