How to avoid condensation with a mattress and base

Very impressed by the amount of information on your site, thank you.
We have bought a huge old German bedstead and are trying to figure out the best way to fit it out. It seems to need two 200cm x 100cm "Lattenrost" the slatted sprung frames you refer to here, which will then need 2 mattresses on top. I'm confused that here you show sprung slats boarded over with MDF, yet elsewhere you talk about risk of condensation with using carpet over the slats? Isn't the condensation even worse with MDF?
Would very much appreciate any advice you can offer on purchase of Lattenrost and appropriate mattresses - plus the condensation question.
Thank you

Hi Judie,

Thank you for your enquiry on our website. We advise the placing of MDF or Plywood sheeting on a base if the space between the slats is 3 inches or more because the mattress will settle into these gaps and the mattress will feel lumpy, this will damage the mattress over time and you would not get the correct support from the springs. Most good quality mattresses will come with either side vents or, in the case of latex mattresses, a breathable cover. All of our mattresses are fully breathable.  As a precaution, if still worried, you could use pegboard instead, of MDF as this has holes in and will assist the airflow. I have tried to look up Lattenroste mattresses and can find little information about them.

Zip and link mattress sets are only available in our Origins and Artisan ranges.  Zip and links are ideal when there are problems with access to the room of your choice and when there is a significant body weight difference and two different spring tensions are required.  Spring tension is dictated solely by an individuals body weight to give them the correct support.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The suitability of any of our models depends on a number of factors such as what your specific requirements are in terms of upholstery, whether synthetic or natural fibres, your preferences in how you like the mattress to feel and your sleeping habits.

The size you require is not a standard size that we do but we could make this as a bespoke size item.  There would be an additional cost of 10% per 6-inch increment of change and there would be no ’60 day love it or return it’ guarantee on any bespoke size item purchased.

If you would like any further information or to discuss the suitability of any of our mattresses please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 250 9795.  Our office hours are 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards

Michaela
