My husband weighs 25 stone and is 6 foot 2, I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 11 stone. Our current divan has a mattress made by Handmade Bed Company- Cathedral range- York (firmer).we believe it was made in two halves although there is no join/zip. We need to replace it as it is 10 years old. It has been very good.
can you advise us please

Hi Alison,

Thank you for your question.

With your body weights, I would suggest a split tension mattress would be appropriate. You should opt for a medium tension for you and firm for your husband as this will then give you the correct support.  This can be made in our Artisan range in a one piece king size mattress and above. Please view the details of the Artisan Naturals, Artisan Bespoke 004 both of which would give you a more medium feel from the upholstery layers and Artisan Bespoke, which has a firmer feel in the upholstery layers irrespective of the spring tension chosen.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The type of base the mattress is to sit upon, can also have an effect on how a mattress will feel.  We pair our Artisan range of mattresses with a sprung divan base which gives the mattress support whereas if the mattress were to go onto a solid / slatted base, this would firm the mattress up again.

If you require any further guidance or advice, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.  I trust that this helps.

Kind regards Julie
