Question on firmness for joint issues.

My partner and I are looking for a new mattress as existing one is sagging in the middle. We tried out a few in the bed shop yesterday and he liked the Kaymed Signature Response 2500. I thought it may be a bit too much to spend, and anyway, for myself the topper seemed a little too thick, and therefore a little too soft, even though the sales guy said it was a firm mattress. He likes a medium firm bed, and I normally like a firm mattress, but for the last year have suffered from increased joint and muscle pain. (due to chronic fatigue but hopefully will get better) so I'm finding it very difficult to get a good nights sleep, and I have to move about a lot in bed to relieve pain. Looking through your website it seems that going for 2500 springs is a bit much, considering partner is 11.5 stones and I'm 12 stones at moment, so one with 1200 springs or so should be adequate? The other consideration is that 2 years ago I was under 10 stone, the weight gain due partly to medication and partly underactivity. I'm hoping in time as I recover and am more active I will get back down to my ideal weight which would be just over 10 stone. I'd really like your advice on best firmness for us both, and also best topper for a mattress that will help with my sore joints.
Thanks
Jacqueline
