Advice re split tension mattress

Jeff

Apologies in advance if this gets a little too detailed!
We are just about to buy a new pocket sprung mattress. My wife is 5' and approx 8 stone 7lb, I'm 5'11" and 12 Stone 10lb. I was/am a little dubious about dual tension mattresses, especially ones that you can't turn. I think however that yours are all turn mattresses? Looking at your charts, our combination of weights and sizes perhaps put us on the borderline. We do both have sporadic lower back issues, but do not like firm mattresses. I sleep on my side and my wife on her back and sometimes on her front, which sometimes causes some of her aches through arching. I think she perhaps needs soft tension and me medium. However, I'm a little unsure with the large range you have, which to go for. Of the beds we've laid on in shops recently, I quite like the feel of a Marquis & Moore (Wessex) medium seasonal turn mattress. Not sure if you will have heard of them (I think Harrison actually make them), but maybe you could advise me on a John Ryan equivalent?

Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The first thing to say is that, due to the fact that the published details in respect of the mattress you refer to are vague, particularly in terms of the upholstery by way of GSM (grams per square metre).

In addition, we find it hard to accept that with different upholstery on both sides, you can get the same feel, albeit described as cooler or warmer.

With your particular body weights and whilst your wife is borderline, we would agree that a split spring tension, medium for you and soft for your wife would be most appropriate.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

Such split tension mattresses are only available in a one piece in king size and above in our Artisan range.

Please view the Artisan Naturals or Artisan Bespoke 004, both of which will provide the same overall medium feel in the upholstery. The Naturals has 85% natural upholstery, whereas the Bespoke 004 has a full 100%.

We hope the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our Advisor's.

Kind Regards, John and Ryan.
