Artisan mattress recommendation please.

Tom

I am 6'5" with a longer than average back and neck for someone my height. I weigh 16 stones. My wife also is 16 stones. She is 5'10". The base we own for a mattress to go on is a kingsize Dunlopillo pocket sprung base, split top to toe.
What I like in a mattress (although have only ever been able to try in John Lewis, Fenwick etc), is a feeling of weightlessness. Allow me to be specific: what I mean is that if I adjust my position, the springs should adjust with me but not have an 'echo bounce' straight afterwards. So if I am lying on my back and decide to push down with my heels and shoulders, my rear end should lift a few inches and then stay there. And later on, if I want to push down with my rear, it should stay down. Another way to explain is to imagine floating in water, or in space: you position a body in a certain arrangement and it just stays there, without being pushed into another position. I also want to feel enveloped by the springs/fillings - as if I had had a mould made for me.
One mattress I used to own that did NOT do this for me was the Pure Rest Elise - a very high end British handmade mattress using predominantly wool and horsehair on a single spring layer, used on their own sprung base. It felt like there was not enough vertical movement, and my hips ended up sore as they were taking too much weight.
The mattress I liked most was in Bentalls in Kingston and was the Vi-Spring Sublime Superb, one up from the Tiara Superb.
Having said all this, I would pick the Artisan Bespoke 002 in medium. But what I would like to hear from you, please, is what difference YOU think I would notice between this and your Artisan Bespoke and Artisan Luxury models.
Many thanks

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Looking at the two Vi-Spring products you refer to, the Sublime and the Tiara, we note that they both contain a double layer of springs, which our Artisan Bespoke 002 also has. The Sublime has a slightly smaller, softer spring unit than the Tiara, which is probably why you prefer that one.

From your description above, we would advise the following:-

While our Artisan Bespoke 002 does have a double layer of springs, the overall feel would be bouncier than the other two models in our range, which leads us to suggest that this would not provide the feel you require throughout a full night's sleep. The Artisan Bespoke has only a single layer of springs but has the most upholstery in the top layers than any other products in that range. This level of upholstery makes the mattress feel slightly firmer than all the others in the range, irrespective of which spring tension is selected.

Artisan Luxury mattress

The Artisan Luxury has the softest, most enveloping upholstery, which in our view would provide the overall feel you require when selected with a medium spring tension, which is suitable for you both.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind Regards.
