I need to purchase a new small double mattress to go onto a slatted bedstead ( I have taken note of your recommendation to use a 3-6mm chipboard/pegboard) it is just for my use and I am 5.6" tall & weigh about 14 stone.

I'm ashamed to say my current mattress is about 24 years old & is an orthopaedic type firm mattress although this was not purchased due to any back or muscular pains - after this length of time on a firm mattress, I think my body would object to anything softer.

However, I am intrigued by your latex toppers and wondered whether an Origins 1000 with a separate latex topper would be of sufficient firmness or whether a Origins 1500 + topper would be more suitable? Does the number of pocket springs make a difference to a bed?

Any other suggestions - budget of about £800.
