I'm looking for a super king mattress (pocket sprung) to go on a hard wooden slatted base. My partner is 12/13 stone and 6 foot 2. I am 9.5 stone and 5"6. I cannot sleep on our current mattress as it gives me terrible back pain and i find it too hard, however my partner sleeps well on it. My previous mattress I was very comfortable but my partner got back ache, it was a bit softer although still quite supportive. I am looking to spend up to around £1000. I was wondering if we need a split tension bed.

Thanks for your question,

Your sleeping habits/personal preference will then determine how you would like the mattress to feel in the comfort layers. This is where you will achieve the feel you are looking for (soft/medium/firm). Do you know if you have a preference for a soft, medium or firm?
If you do not, I would advise to go out and try the;

Vispring Devonshire – Soft in upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Luxury

Vispring Regal Superb – True medium in upper layers – Comparable with Artisan Bespoke 004

Vispring Herald – Firm in the upper layers – Comparable with the Artisan Bespoke

This is then to be paired with the right spring tension based on your body weight. At the body weights you have provided you do not require a split tension. You are both suited to the medium spring tension.

This will then ensure that you are both correctly supported. From there your personal preference and sleep habit will determine the overall firmness you require and style of mattress

As you are looking to place the mattress onto a slatted base this will firm up the overall feel of any mattress used on this base.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

I hope this helps if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419
