I bought a Fusion 1 latex mattress from you in July 2016. The outer layer of the topper is now cracking and I need to understand is this normal for this to happen

Dear Ellen,

Thank you for your enquiry about your mattress topper. The mattress topper of your Fusion 1 is a 100% natural Latex core with 1 cm of graphite Latex either side for fire retardancy.

Sometimes turning and rotating the mattress topper as well as sleeping on it can cause small cracks or even small surface tears to the latex core appear over time.  As latex dries out on the surface it can crack too especially in the first couple of years. This can also happen if the mattress topper has been folded in half at any time under stress. Cracks and tears wouldn't affect your Latex mattress topper on the whole as the graphite layers protect the core of the topper. It’s more a cosmetic issue than a lifespan one. This is the same with memory and hybrid foam.

In fact, with most toppers and mattresses you wouldn’t see this unless it has a zip-off cover. We’ve uncovered Dunlopillo original mattresses from the 60s that are completely cracked on the surface as the latex dries out slightly but still as good as new to sleep on!

I hope this is helpful and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards
Michaela
