What weights can a mattress take?

Is there a limit of sleepers weights on a mattress?

Hi Catherine,

Many thanks for your question on weight limits for mattresses. It is a really important one. Most retail mattresses guarantees state that any sleeper over the weight of 18 stone will void their warranties. Most people are totally unaware of this!

There is a weight limit when mattresses are considered. It is usually 18 stone per sleeper with a maximum of two sleepers in the bed.

However, you also need to bear in mind that most bed bases will only accommodate a maximum weight of 30 stone for both sleepers. ie two 15 stone sleepers. Anything over this and the bed frame may not take the weight of the mattress and the sleepers before becoming damaged.

If you think you're going to exceed these limits we can still make you a bespoke mattress with a firmer more supportive 1.9 gauge spring and a reinforced bed base. You would need to speak to us directly to help ensure that any mattress and base is going to be strong enough.

We hope that helps and gives you further mattress buying guidance. If you have any more mattress related questions please get back in touch on info@localhost or 0161 437 4419.

Sleep well!
