How best to store a matteress long term

A customer asked

My artisan bespoke matteress is having to go into storage whilst I travel for a year. It will be a very dry container so I have no concerns over environmental issues. If I placed the matteress back on the bed base (asuming I have the space) could I store items on top of it? A few lightweight boxes or the coffee table for example? ow long would it take for the matteress to settle back when I bring it out of storage, if it had been on it's side for example? Out of everything in my home my priority concern is how best to care for my lovely matteress. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Sonja,

The best way to store any mattress is flat, not on its side.

If you have the room to place the mattress on the base this would be ideal, but I wouldn't store anything of any great weight on top of it, only light weight items.

This would then mean that when taken out of storage it is likely to feel similar to how it does at the point of placing in storage.

If you place anything heavy on the mattress, this will cause settlement and if the mattress is not used or turned in that period, it may not be possible to return it to shape. I trust that this helps.

Kind Regards Gary
