Are Ottoman beds good for someone that is overweight? I mean 19 stone. And which mattress would you recommend? Do you need to get a new one if you lose weight?

Hi there,

Ottoman bases have a platform top, similar to a basic platform topped divan and are made to withstand body weights of up to 22 stones. Our ottoman bases are fitted with gas struts which are sufficient to hold the weight of our heaviest mattresses when lifted. I note that you are asking for advice as to a suitable mattress and although you have provided your body weight, we would need to know your preferred feel and budget

In addition, it would be useful to know whether you are looking for a mattress with synthetic or natural upholstery or a hybrid foam or latex product all of which would be able to support your weight. In order for us to provide a specific recommendation, please call our office to provide this information.

Ottoman Bases
Platform top divan - no springs
Solid wood top and corner joints. FSC Approved.
MDF veneered lined base construction
Fully upholstered in a range of fabric options.
Hessian backing underneath.
1000-Newton Gas Struts
Threaded joining bolt and base brackets to join two piece bases together.
Can take upto 85 kg in mattress weight.
Fixings for both Shepherd castors and headboard bolts.

Kind regards,
