Firstly your website is great and I really appreciate all the open and detailed information you provide regarding mattresses.
However I am still a little undecided regarding the purchase of a new mattress (and bed frame). Our current mattress is old, I think we've had it over 15 years. I don't remember anything about what type it is, it feels fairly soft in the spring (likely partly because of its age) and at a guess medium in softness. I do like my comfort - I have always used a thin memory foam topper on it (and a regular padded cotton mattress protector on top of that).I am 5 ft 4 and 11 stone and my husband is 5ft 10 and 14 stone.I am going to buy the bed frame from you as i want drawers in it.Regarding a mattress, my priority apart from comfort is not being woken up when my husband shifts around in the bed - our current mattress is driving me nuts in that regard.First question: Will the zip and link solve that problem or would I be better off with a latex mattress? My worry with the latex mattress is that it will be too firm a feel for me.Second question: The artisan range sounds great and

My worry with the latex mattress is that it will be too firm a feel for me.
Second question: The artisan range sounds great and i see they have a much higher guarantee of 10 years as opposed to 2 or 3 years (7 for the latex) but of course much higher cost than the Originals range. How long would you expect an average Originals comfort/1500 pocket mattress to last versus an Artisan mattress? Is it worth spending the extra money simply in terms of longevity?
Final question: You have a comfort chart for the Orgins and for the Artisan mattresses, if you had to compare the comfort of lying on the originals comfort or the 1500 pocket, where would they come in that Artisan scale in terms of softness/comfort?

Hi Elizabeth,

The Origins range uses man made fibres in the upholstery whereas the Artisan range has natural upholstery layers and whilst each will provide good levels of comfort, they cannot be compared in terms of longevity as natural upholstery will last longer with proper care.

In addition, the Artisan range can be selected with a specific spring tension, soft, medium or firm to suit the body weight(s) of the people using the mattress.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The spring unit in the Origins range is set as a medium support with varying levels of comfort being provided by the upholstery layers.

The Origins Comfort 1000 has the softest top layers to give that snuggle feel when sleeping on it whereas the Origins Pocket 1500 has slightly firmer upholstery layers providing an overall medium feel.

With your particular body weights you both fall within the medium spring tension (feel) bracket.

Zip and link mattresses are usually selected because of access issues, although they do help in reducing the disturbance felt when one party moves during the night.

Having said that, a good quality pocket sprung mattress in a one piece should also provide sufficient relief from such disturbance.

Although the Origins range does not have the same length of warranty that the Artisan range does, with proper care and consideration, we would expect their life to exceed to term of such warranty.

Likewise, with proper care and consideration we would expect the Artisan range of mattresses to last in excess of their warranty period. By proper care and consideration, I mean regular turning and rotating to spread the wear and tear and to alleviate undue settlement.

It is not possible to compare the level of comfort provided by the Origins range to those products in the Artisan range as the upholstery is totally different as is the spring unit. In addition, the Origins range is less expensive because of this and even though cheaper, represents excellent value for money when compared to other products on the market at present.

When advising upon the appropriate mattress for a customer we take into consideration body weights, preferred feel and budget and we endeavour to match the customer to the product. In 96 % of cases we get this spot on which is why we are confident to offer a 60 day "love it or return it" guarantee in addition to the manufacturer's warranty.

I trust that the above is of assistance to you, but if your require any further advice or guidance, please do not hesitate to call our office on 01619453757

Kind Regards Gary
