Using a mattress topper as a base for pocket sprung mattress

Hello,I've read a lot of your Q&As which advise to place a flat surface (mdf board) over sprung slatted frames to accommodate pocket sprung mattresses. I was wondering if as an alternative you could use a mattress topper to sit the pocket sprung mattress on instead (a bit backwards I know!) to help avoid the ridging effect over time? Perhaps a mattress topper which offers a firmer support. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

The main purpose of mattress toppers is to provide a softer feel or more comfort on a mattress which may feel too firm.

Because of their construction, it is unlikely that they would prevent the ridging occurring as they are also likely to dip into the gaps between the slats.

I cannot provide an opinion as to the performance of the product you refer to and would not like to confirm that this would provide the protection that we recommend when using a slatted base.

If you require any further assistance please give the office a call on 0161 437 4419

Kind regards.
