What mattress/bed should i go for

Rob

I'm in the market for a King size bed (divan/ottoman). My budget is around 1200 but I'm having difficulty in determing an appropriate matress after lying on a few at retail stores. I've tried both the medium soft thermapur serenity which I instantly liked the feeling of best and also the memory foam sensaform 9000 but I don't what would be best suited. I'm also a bit concerned about memory foam causing me aches and pain due to sag and compressing too much due to a soft spring despite liking the softer feel. I'm a traditional side sleeper, sleeping on my left side and generally do not move from that position. My weight is approximately 60kg and I'm 6ft tall. I have looked at range of matresses from latex and pocket sprung, combination matresses and also hypnos matresses. I am tempted to purchase the thermapur serenity as everything else I tried didn't come close apart from the sensaform 9000. What spring tension matress will best support me and what upholstery layers should I be looking for in a matress given my budget? I need some clarity to aid my decision making process as I'm getting confused as to exactly what the best bed/matress I can get given my budget, what would you recommend?

Hi Rob,

We are sorry to hear of your difficulty in deciding what mattress to buy and hope to be able to provide some help and guidance to resolve the issue.

We note that both the mattresses you refer to are one sided and we would refer you to this article dealing with the very subject here.

We also note that you have a specific budget and as such, will provide advice which takes this into account.

How much to spend on a double mattress? What can I expect for my money?
Under £500 Will not get you much at best a 13.5 gauge open coil/cage sprung with a thin polyester layer or a solid foam mattress.
£500 Entry level spunbond springs with some form of synthetic upholstery. Usually one sided mattresses.
£750 The beginnings of a basic pocket springs unit with 800 – 1000 count. No substantial amount of filling other than foams and synthetic materials. Two sided models.
£1000 Should get you away from most low ranges and into the mid-range pocket spring models.
£1250 Should get you a decent pocket sprung mattress with some Natural Fibre content.
£1500 Should get you many manufacturers mid-range models with Natural Fibres
£1500-£2000 Should get you a Hand Made primarily Natural Fibre Quality Mattress
£2000+ You should expect 100% Natural Fibres and Traditional Hand Made Construction Method.
£5000+ A Bespoke Hand Made Sleep System, High-end Spring Units & Featuring the Worlds Most Luxurious Natural Fibres.

Given your particular sleeping pattern/position, we would suggest that you view the Origins Comfort 1000, which could be augmented for comfort with a Laygel 7.5 cm topper to provide the best overall feel for you.

Please see the article about toppers  here, which will give you more of an insight as to what their benefits are. As far as a base is concerned, If you chose a standard platform topped base with four drawers, that would bring the overall costs for all three products to £1170.00 (Nov 2018), whereas, if you really wanted to go for an ottoman base, the overall price would go up to £1445 ( Nov 2018) at today's prices.

We trust that the above is of assistance to you, but if you do require any further guidance or advice, please do not hesitate to call our office.

Kind Regards Gary
