A customer asked

HiI have fibromylgia (chronic pain in most joints) and bursitis on the hips/upper thighs. Very sensitive to pressure. My husband has lower back ache as well. I am 90kg and my husband 82kg. Please recommend the best mattress you have for us to get deep comfortable sleep as well as significant reduction due to pressure points. Also, what sort of base is good (divan vs slates). Thanks

Hi there,

Thank you for your enquiry.

There are no mattresses out there that are made specifically for fibromyalgia sufferers, however, from what you have said, support and soft comfort are what you need. With your body weights a medium spring tension/feel mattress is advisable and in addition to this softer comfort levels are required to alleviate the pressure points.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

The Origins Comfort 1000 has a standard medium spring unit and has soft man-made upholstery layers to provide that extra comfort. Alternatively, if your budget permits, you could look at the Artisan Luxury, which can have the spring tension selected to suit and has soft natural upholstery layers. There is an article here on mattress upholstery, which you may find useful.

As far as a base is concerned, the Origins range are paired with a platform topped divan and the Artisans have a firm edge sprung divan. Slatted bases are ok, but we would advise that you place some form of barrier, usually thin (3-5mm) MDF over the slats to provide the mattress with a uniform surface upon which to sit and prevent ridging occurring as a result of the mattress dipping into the gaps between the slats.

I hope that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419.  Our office hours are 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Kind Regards.

Michaela
