Will a topper soften the feel

Hi,
I currently have a Hypnos pocket sprung ortho matteress, double on a pocket sprung divan base. I have found this too soft and have placed quite thick ply over the base making it solid.
I do still have slight back pain from the bed and my partner complains of movement when I turn over. I am considering a 100% latex topper to help the general comfort of my bed, I  am concerned that a topper will soften the bed further.
I am 5.10 and 13.5 st and my partner is 5.4 and 10.5 st. What topper (if any) thicknesses and firmness would you recommend, thanks.

Hi Dean,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Mattresses with ortho or orthopaedic in the name are usually on the firm side and we are surprised that at your body weights, you find this too soft. We would suggest that a medium spring tension/feel mattress is more appropriate for you both. Placing the ply over the base will have made a slight difference, but you are still going to have a small amount of give, because the springs will still work in the way they were intended.

Mattress toppers are used primarily to provide an extra soft layer and make a firmer mattress feel softer. They cannot be used to make a mattress feel firmer.

We trust that this helps, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind regards Julie
