Anthony Harmon

Good morning,
Firstly, thank you for producing such an informative and well designed website. I feel like in some ways I may have already come across the answer to this question, but would really appreciate some direct advice if you wouldn't mind?
I am a 35 year old male who suffers with regular spinal disc issues in the lower back - L5/S1 area. I am 6 ft 5 inches and 96kg in weight. I share the bed with my girlfriend who is around 5ft 8 inches, but I am uncertain of her weight (I can ask her, but I think it is in the 11 stone range - please forgive the mismatching of metric measurements!).
We are looking for a king size mattress (we already have a frame and base) that would be suitable for my back and support me well. We have a limited budget as we are about to move house, but if we needed to, we would spend up to £1000 if it means getting the 'right' mattress''.
Could you give me some advice on what would be best please? Also, what is the lead time like for delivery on mattresses?
Many thanks

Hi Anthony,

Thank you for your enquiry.

When choosing a new mattress you need to take into account body weight(s) and preferred feel. In both your cases, your body weight dictates that you should be looking for a medium spring tension/feel mattress. This is because the spring tension needs to be sufficient to provide the support required and the comfort will be provided by the upholstery layers.

Advice used to be that if you suffer from back issues you need a firm mattress. This advice has been found to be incorrect, because as stated above, you need the right support for your body weight and the correct comfort to suit.

Please view the Origins Pocket 1500, which has a standard medium tension spring unit together with man made upholstery providing an overall medium feel and it falls well within your budget. Alternatively, and more expensive, you could view the Artisan 1500, which can have the spring unit to suit and has a degree of natural upholstery as detailed in it's description.

Delivery is approximately 21-28 days from order, dependent upon location.

We trust that the above is of help to you, but if you require any further advice or guidance, please call our office on 0161 437 4419 and speak with one of our advisors.

Kind Regards Gary
