Can you put a cheap memory mattress onto an existing hard mattress
I have been looking at mattress toppers to make a new rest assured wool collection (firm) bed softer. This thing is like sleeping on a table. It occurs to me that good toppers are very expensive and could we get away with buying a cheap memory foam mattress to go on top instead?
Hi Rebelbase,
Thanks for your question,
As your body weight determines the overall firmness that you require in the spring tension. Could you confirm your body weight for me, please? This may be the reason this mattress is feeling so firm for you. As shown by the spring tension chart below.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
You may be able to use a thin memory foam mattress but I would not advise doing this. The mattress will be extremely deep if you do purchase another mattress to place on top of it. Your best bet will be to talk with the original manufacturer about the spring tension if you are under 16 stone. I'd place a duvet over the mattress to see if that softens down the overall feel for in the comfort layer. If this has helped, then I would recommend having a look at a topper.

I hope this helps.
