Why use polyester that is cheap and doesn't have a long lifespan?
Hello, I was directed to your comfort origins mattress using your questionnaire, however I was just wondering why you use polyester in your mattresses as I have also just read on your website that polyester is very cheap and does not have a long lifespan? The other mattress that was recommended for us is unfortunately a bit too expensive for our budget. Is there anything inbetween?
Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your question,
Polyester is used, Polyester is a synthetic resin that is spun into a range of fabrics, waddings and fibre fillings. It's an entry level man made fibre used for a variety of different purposes and used heavily in upholstery. This is because it's cheap to produce and offers a variety of tensions in particular for mattresses.
When we use the term ‘polyester’ we are referring to the component as used by nearly all mattress manufacturers. This mattress fibre product is generally described as a non-woven, thermally bonded material of polyester fibres to form a mattress sized pad of varying densities and weights.
Because of the prolific use of this product, not only in mattresses but sofas, duvets, chairs, pillows etc, it stands to reason that this component can be made to feel either luxuriously soft, relatively firm, substantially firm or whatever. If there is a particular requirement, there will be a product to suit.
As you have been recommended the Origins Comfort 1000 this would lead me to believe that you are looking for a soft sinking comfort layer in your mattress. The next most suitable mattress for you would be the Origins Pocket 1500, this is a true medium in the comfort layers with a wool comfort layer sitting above the polyester. This paired with an external topper would then give you a softer comfort layer than a standard medium without having to pay the price for the Artisan Luxury This would be the only suitable option for you that will not go above your budget. Have a look below at an idea of what budgets will allow you to achieve with your mattress purchase.
