TheraPur ActiGel Glacier 6800 Combination Mattress review and comparison

Myself and my partner tried the dreams sleep match machine which suggested a firm, we went with this trusting this would be suitable however ended up being incredibly hard. We exchanged for a different mattress which was a medium but the quality felt very poor and comfort layers inadequate… exchanged again but to another firm as it felt soft yet supportive in store but ended up feeling like we were sleeping on top of our shoulders and hips (waking up with awful pain)… which has led us to exchanging to the therapur actigel 6800 in a medium. The pillow top feels softer than in store but not having so many issues with shoulder pain now - but I am getting some lower back pain (assuming adjusting to sleeping on something new).

To be quite frank I’m sick of the whole mattress saga. It’s been incredibly stressful and dreams do not offer refunds only exchange. I wish we had never purchased from there and found your website sooner ! What mattress would you suggest for us in your range? For reference I’m a side sleeper 5ft 3 16st 3lbs my partner is 5ft 8 14 st and a side sleeper but also sleeps on his back sometimes. Desperate for a good quality sleep and so disappointed after spending so much money with dreams

Hi Lauren,

Thank you for your email. To determine which of our models would be the most suitable for your individual needs we would need to know your comfort preferences and sleeping habits - this tells us how the upholstery layers should feel.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

This mattress is described on the Dream website as medium comfort with no option to change the spring tension to firm.

Most retailers will describe a mattress based on the spring tension not on the comfort layers on top of the springs. It is these that determine how the mattress feels and not the springs. The springs only offer support based on your height and weight. You are borderline between the spring tensions and would receive support from either whereas your partner requires the medium springs for support as they do not weigh enough to activate the firm springs.

Given that you are experiencing pins and needles on this mattress it is definitely too firm in the comfort, especially for side sleepers. Side sleepers require cushioning for these areas to sink into to keep your spine aligned. You can also pivot on your shoulders and hips which puts pressure on your lower spine when the comfort layers are too firm. For this reason, we would never recommend firm upholstery layers for side sleepers. As your partner also sleeps on their back as well as their side, I would recommend a medium level of comfort and a medium spring tension such as the Origins Pocket 1500 or the Artisan Naturals.

All customers of a standard size mattress are covered under our 60 day love it or return it guarantee. We do ask that you use a mattress protector and give the mattress a good month or so as it can take 4 to 6 weeks for your body to adjust to the new mattress. If after this time you are not getting along with the mattress you can either send it back for a full refund or we can do a one time exchange to another mattress depending on how you found the first one. You would then get a 60 day love it or return it guarantee with the second mattress which you can return for a full refund if you do not find it comfortable.

Regards

Michaela
