Unsure which bed would be suitable
Hi,
I’ve been reviewing the best mattress options as my current one is significantly sinking and I have many issues, including Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, restlessness and insomnia. I’m 6” 3 in height and last weighed, I was about 22 stone (possibly slightly larger). I’m also a stomach sleeper, sleep on my own and also easily overheat at times
I’d strongly appreciate a mattress that is cool, comfortable and has a luxurious feel. I’m open to any price range as I’m willing to invest more in my sleep and to help in the long run with ongoing sleep/health issues.
Having researched brands, I’ve found the likes of Sima, Dreamcloud and others to not be suitable due to their recommended weight capacities (lower than mine) for long term use.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Nathan,
Thank you for your question. It can be quite confusing looking for a new mattress, especially for the heavier sleeper where the choices are more limited. Medical conditions like Sleep Apnea and Insomnia can complicate matters even further.
Natural fibres provide the coolest sleeper surface, they are much more breathable and help you to regulate your body temperature. If a mattress contains wool, it will wick away heat and moisture quicker than any other fibre.
As a front sleeper, we recommend firmer upholstery layers such as our Artisan Bespoke, which will help to keep your body aligned. If you sink in too much in this position, it can cause your lower back to overarch causing pain in this area. If this is too firm and you would prefer a slightly softer level of comfort, you could add a separate mattress topper with the more supportive layers of the mattress underneath. A mattress topper can also prolong the lifespan of your mattress.
Bodyweight | Spring tension |
---|---|
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg | Medium (1.4mm) |
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards | Firm (1.6mm) |
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) | Soft (1.2mm) |
At your height and body weight, the firm spring tension would provide the correct level of support.
The type of base you have the mattress on can affect how it feels. although our Artisan range of mattresses is designed for a pocket sprung divan base, I would recommend putting yours on a platform divan base, similar to our Contemporary Divan which will firm up the internal support of the mattress slightly. If you have a slatted base, boarding it over would replicate a platform base.
I hope this helps and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact our small friendly team on 0161 437 4419.
Kind Regards
Michaela
