Spring tension query

Comment Check Icon 1 answers Comment Icon 0 comments

I weigh approx 55kg whereas my husband weighs approx 73kg. I would like to get a zip and link king-size mattress, as I get disturbed by his moving around.

We'd like a medium/firm feel to it ideally.

Our budget is between £1500-£2000.

Please advise, thanks 😊

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for your question. A zip and link mattress is ideal if you have limited access to your room of choice. They are also easier to turn over and eliminate motion disturbance. However, they can feel slightly firmer as there is less surface area between the piping.

Bodyweight Spring tension
Upto 16 Stone / 50-101kg Medium (1.4mm)
16 Stone / 101kg Upwards Firm (1.6mm)
Available in Bespoke Products (Please Call) Soft (1.2mm)

We would pair you both with the medium spring tension to give you the correct level of support. Any mattress will feel firmer for you at your lighter body weight, as you would make less impression into the comfort layers as a heavier person.

Origins Pocket Reflex 1000 Mattress on Cream Chenille Base

At your budget and comfort preference, I would recommend the Origins Reflex 1000 mattress, which has a firmer medium level of comfort in the manmade upholstery layers. The kingsize zip and link retails at £1070 (Mar 25). If this is a little too firm for you, you can add a mattress topper to your half. The Origins Pocket 1500 would provide you with a firmer medium level of comfort, but would have a medium comfort for your husband that would be too soft for him.

The type of base you use can affect how the mattress feels. The Origins range of mattresses is designed for a platform base, such as our Contemporary platform base. A slatted base would provide the mattress with a similar level of support, but you would need to either cover the slats or board over them, depending on the distance between them. With a 3 inch gap or less, cover over the slats with an old or cheap duvet that will protect the upholstery layers on the underside of the mattress from indentations and possible staining. If the gap is larger than 3 inches, you would need to board over the slats with 3- 5 mm of MDF or Plywood to give the mattress a uniform surface and prevent the springs from settling in the gap, which will damage the mattress. If you have a pocket sprung base, like our Artisan base, this will cushion the mattress and give it a softer overall feel.

I hope this helps and if you would like any further information or would like to discuss your individual needs, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 0161 437 4419.

Kind Regards

Michaela
